ABOUT
A physicist working across science, technology and international industry.
I was born in 1982 in Gonbad-e Kavus, Iran. My work and interests have developed across academic physics, technology, industrial projects and international business.
01
Academic & Scientific Background
My scientific background is primarily in photonics, ultrafast lasers, nonlinear optics and optical parametric systems.
Sharif University of Technology
Tehran, Iran
I began my university studies at Sharif University of Technology, studying Applied Physics.
Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics
Munich, Germany
After being accepted at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics (MPQ), I moved to Munich to continue my studies and scientific training.
Master's in Photonics & ICFO
Barcelona, Spain
Later that year, I moved to Barcelona and continued my master's studies in Photonics through a joint program of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
At the same time, I joined ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences for my research work.
Optical Parametric Oscillators & Doctoral Research
At ICFO, I worked with the Optical Parametric Oscillators group, focusing on ultrafast laser systems, nonlinear frequency conversion and optical parametric oscillators.
I subsequently continued my doctoral research and studies there. My PhD research focused on high-power ultrafast optical parametric oscillators from the visible to the mid-infrared, including femtosecond and picosecond systems, high-repetition-rate sources and nonlinear frequency conversion.
University of Texas at Austin
Austin, Texas, USA
After completing the research and study phase of my PhD at ICFO, I moved to the United States and continued my academic and research activities at the University of Texas at Austin, working in optics and photonics.
Scientific work
My research has involved nonlinear optical materials such as PPLN and BIBO, synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillators, fiber-laser-pumped sources, high-repetition-rate systems, harmonic generation and ultrafast photonics.
02
Recognition & Awards
Recognition related to scientific freedom, responsibility and the ethical use of scientific knowledge.
2014
Andrei Sakharov Prize
American Physical Society
Awarded in recognition of my courage in refusing to apply my physics knowledge to projects that I considered harmful to humanity.
2014
Scientific Freedom & Responsibility Award
American Association for the Advancement of Science
Recognition of commitment to scientific freedom, scientific responsibility and the ethical use of scientific expertise.
I have also received educational and research support through a joint Optica and SPIE grant.

An Eternal Golden Braid
Douglas Hofstadter
I contributed through scientific discussions with the Persian translators, particularly on concepts related to modern physics, and assisted in finding suitable Persian equivalents for several complex and specialized terms.
04
Technology, Industry & International Business
Applying scientific and analytical thinking beyond academic research.
My professional activities extend beyond academic physics and scientific research.
Over the years, I have been involved in areas including industrial technology, polymers and chemicals, energy, international sourcing, logistics and cross-border trade.
I am particularly interested in projects where scientific and analytical thinking can be applied to practical industrial challenges — from energy systems and photovoltaic diagnostics to materials, industrial technologies, technical evaluation and commercial decision-making.
My international work has involved working with suppliers, customers and industrial partners across different countries and markets, combining technical understanding with international business, sourcing and trade.
